Creating FI General Ledger Account Master Records

G/L account master records are split into a chart of accounts area and a company code-specific area.

Information in the chart of accounts controls the creation of master records in company codes. Because of this, you must create a master record in the chart of accounts before you can create it in the company code. You can carry out this function in the following ways:

  • You create the chart of accounts area first and then the company code-specific area in a second step.
  • You can create a master record in the chart of accounts and in the company code in one step.

You should use the two-step method to create master records primarily if you intend to assign predefined values for creating G/L account master records in the company code-specific area from a central position. Otherwise, you can use the one-step method for creating your master records in both areas.

The system offers a variety of techniques and procedures for creating G/L accounts. Your system administrator should choose the method which best meets your company’s requirements from the choices below:

  1. Copying a chart of accounts and company code
  2. Using a reference
  3. Data transfer using ABAP Workbench for G/L account master data
  4. Sample account technique
  5. Manual master data creation

These techniques are described in the General Ledger Accounting Implementation Guide and can be carried out there. Here, we only explain how to manually create master data from the General Ledger application menu.

Your system administrator can delete master records in the chart of accounts and/or in the company code using the program SAPF019. To do this, in the General Ledger Accounting Implementation Guide choose the activity Delete G/L account.
