Changes to the Chart of FI General Ledger Accounts

You can change any fields in the chart of accounts of the G/L account master record with the exception of the account number.

In the following cases, you must consider certain requirements:

  • As long as no master record was created in the company code for the entry in the chart of accounts, you can change the chart of accounts entry.
  • If you change the account group, it may be necessary to maintain all master records in the company codes.

You can change the account group specified in the chart of accounts. In addition, you can change the definitions of the account group. This might be necessary, for example, if you install a new SAP application such as Materials Management or Sales and Distribution. After changing the account group, it is possible that fields which were previously hidden will be displayed in the master record, or vice versa. As a result, situations can occur which require maintenance of all master data in the company codes.

You created your master records with an account group for which the fields for cash management are hidden as you did not use these up to now. However, if you now install this application, you need the fields for cash management in the G/L account master record. Your system administrator changes the specifications of the field status of the required fields, that is, all fields for cash management are made into required-entry fields for all G/L account master records.

The changes are logged and are effective as soon as you save them. You can also display these changes.

  • You can change the specification whether an account is a balance sheet account or an income statement account. After changing this specification, you should carry out a balance carried forward. You can find further information on this in FI Closing and Reporting.
  • The
  • sample account does not take effect when changing a master record. Changes to the data transfer rules for the sample accounts of a company code apply immediately to all master records which were created with a sample account. Fields which contained a nonchangeable value when created may become changeable.
